Survey types

One request, matched to the actual job

A pre-purchase inspection is not the same assignment as a tonnage measurement or commercial-code survey. We keep the scope clear from the beginning.

How it works

A practical route from request to inspection

The platform helps structure the enquiry and introduce suitable professionals. The selected surveyor remains responsible for agreeing scope, fee and terms with you.

1

Tell us about the yacht

Share the vessel, survey purpose, location, timing and any buyer or registry deadline.

2

We review the scope

We check geography, material, size, specialist needs and whether formal acceptance matters.

3

Receive a suitable introduction

Where available, we connect you with a surveyor whose stated capability fits the assignment.

4

Appoint independently

You compare the scope and terms, resolve conflicts and instruct the professional directly.

Important distinction

Professional membership is not automatic flag approval

For pre-purchase and condition work, competence, experience, insurance and independence are central. For tonnage, registration, coding or statutory work, the flag or accepting organisation may also require a specific appointment.

Irish survey locations

Plan the inspection around Ireland’s widely separated boating regions

Irish yacht centres and yards are spread around the Atlantic, Irish Sea and inland waterways. Confirm the exact location, lift and wash access, tidal window, sea-trial route and whether specialist rig or machinery attendance is required.

Dublin & east coast

Dún Laoghaire · Dublin · Howth · Malahide · Wicklow

The largest concentration of east-coast marina services. Confirm tidal or marina access, lift booking and authority for a sea trial.

Find a surveyor in this region

Cork & south coast

Cork Harbour · Crosshaven · Kinsale · Baltimore · Waterford

A strong sailing, brokerage and commercial-marine region. Travel between harbours and yard access should be agreed before attendance.

Find a surveyor in this region

West coast

Galway · Clifden · Kilrush · Dingle

Atlantic weather, tides and longer travel corridors can affect inspection timing. Confirm whether the vessel can be hauled and safely trialled.

Find a surveyor in this region

Shannon & inland waterways

Lough Derg · Athlone · Carrick-on-Shannon · Enniskillen area

Inland motorboats and cruisers require the exact marina, lifting method and systems status; sea-going assumptions may not apply.

Find a surveyor in this region

North-west & Donegal

Sligo · Killybegs · Donegal · Lough Swilly

Dispersed harbours and commercial facilities require early confirmation of travel, yard permissions and appropriate vessel experience.

Frequently asked questions

Before you appoint a marine surveyor

What information is needed for a marine survey quote in Ireland?

Provide the exact marina, harbour or yard, vessel details, construction, survey purpose and preferred date. Include lift, wash, tidal access, sea trial and any insurer, lender or formal certificate requirement.

Can one surveyor cover both east and west coast Ireland?

Some surveyors travel, but distances and yard access are material. A regionally practical match can reduce travel, while a vessel or assignment specialist may still need to attend from elsewhere.

Are lift and sea-trial costs included?

Only when the written quote says so. Lift, pressure wash, relaunch, skipper, fuel, marina access and specialist diagnostics are commonly separate arrangements.

Can an inland cruiser be surveyed in Ireland?

Yes, subject to location and access. Give the waterway and marina, lifting method, vessel construction and whether machinery and systems can be operated.

Can any surveyor complete formal fishing-vessel work?

No. Ireland’s Department of Transport publishes a current panel for surveys of fishing vessels under 15 metres. Other vessel categories or tasks may use different formal routes, so confirm the exact requirement first.

Who appoints the marine surveyor?

The client appoints and instructs the surveyor directly after agreeing scope, fee, timing and terms. Ireland Marine Survey provides information and introductions only.

Can you help with other specialist marine survey assignments?

Potential assignments include pre-purchase specialist inspections, fishing-vessel assignments, new-build & refit supervision, rig & mast inspections, engine diagnostics & oil analysis, osmosis, moisture & corrosion, damage & expert-witness work, on-hire, off-hire & delivery surveys. Availability depends on the location, vessel and required specialist capability or formal appointment.
